Time Management and Business Go Hand In Hand

by Andy Pitt on February 22, 2011

When we talk about time management and business, we are talking about an extremely important skill that will allow any business owner to be able to become successful, and to stay that way indefinitely. One of the biggest challenges many business owners face is the ability to be able to do everything that is needed within a 24-hour day. In most cases, businesses fail due to poor time management. Because of this lack of organization, these business owners find themselves becoming overwhelmed and confused. This in turn creates a domino effect, which then causes the business to finally collapse. One of the first things any business owner should learn is that time management and business go hand-in-hand in order to become successful.

Failing to prioritize correctly is probably one of the most critical time management and business mistakes. The reason why this occurs is because of lack of organization, such as scheduling the day according to priorities. In fact, when people really look at what they do during the day, they will be quite surprised to find how much time is actually wasted. One example is a business owner that continuously checks his mail for new messages. Anyone who owns an e-mail client knows just how tempting it is to always want to see if there is anything new in the inbox. This action alone can waste hours in the day, thus leaving less time for things that are more important.

Trying to control everything is another critical mistake that many business owners make. It is human nature to always feel that no one can do something better than yourself. Unfortunately, trying to do everything yourself will soon have you realizing that there are not enough hours in the day. A better approach would be to delegate a good portion of this work. Through delegation, the business owner is able to have a better view of the bigger picture. In addition, there is also more time in the day to focus on projects that are more important. Time management and business have to go hand-in-hand in order for any business to become successful. Once a business owner understands this importance, their overall success can easily become reachable.

That’s right! Only 3% ever make it – I have in the past been part of that 3%. And the best reason to work for yourself if you have a “good work ethic” is no one else is going to value your time and pay you what you are worth like yourself!
