Never Underestimate your Abilities

by Andy Pitt on November 10, 2011

Continents and oceans have been shaped and conquered by men and women who were just like you. These men and women did not have armies by their sides, and they did not have a power that is not accessible to ordinary men and women; all they had was a belief in their own abilities and the belief that they could do what they set out to do. When someone tells you to never underestimate your abilities, it is not because they want to give you false hope or a sense of false security; it is because you are truly capable of accomplishing anything you set out to do; anything that your heart truly calls you to do.

It’s the little things That Get Us Down

So why do so many of us believe that we are capable of so little? Why is it that we can never trust those that tell us to “never underestimate your abilities”? It is because of one word that should be wiped out of your vocabulary; the word “can’t”. This word is said to us thousands of times throughout our lives, and after some time, we begin to believe it. In fact, we begin to say it to ourselves, over and over again, before we have even attempted something new or challenging. We tell ourselves that we cannot do it, sometimes without any reason at all, simply because the faith we had in ourselves was lost somewhere along the way.

Do not let others choose your Dreams for you

You will hear the word “can’t” many times in your life, whether you accept it or not. It should not matter whether you hear it or not, as it is refusing to accept it that matters. When we let others dictate what we are able to do and what we are not, we end up giving up the most important part of ourselves; our dreams. You should never let someone else dictate what is important to you, nor should you try and do the same to someone else.

You Are Capable of More Than You Can Imagine

Humans have been able to conquer countries, build tunnels across oceans and touch the sky with our buildings. We have been able to touch the moon, the depths of our oceans, even learn how to fly. All of these feats were accomplished because someone, somewhere, refused to listen when someone told them that it couldn’t be done. You do not need to follow in the footsteps of a famous father or mother to be great; you simply need to follow in the footsteps of all mankind and never underestimate your abilities.
