Stand out from the crowd

How to stand out from the Crowd

by Andy Pitt on November 3, 2011

When we are young, most of us are told to “be ourselves”. While this might seem easy to a child, who wouldn’t think of being anyone else, it tends to get more difficult as we grow up. The moment we reach high school, we begin to learn to blend in with the crowd, and over time, we forget how to stand out from the crowd; yet it is usually only when we are being true to ourselves that we are most happy. So, how do you stand out from the crowd? Well, since you are born to be unique, all you really need to do is be yourself.

Speak your Mind

Your thoughts and actions are your own, and imitating those around you is the fastest way to lose yourself in the crowd. If you want to learn how to stand out from the crowd, you need to make your opinions heard; albeit in a respectful manner, and people will respect you for who you are, even if they do not always like it.

Be Your Own Fashion Icon

Fashion trends spread like wild fire, but someone somewhere has to start them. What you wear should be a reflection of who you are, and dressing just like everyone else is like holding a mirror up to someone else’s personality.

Develop your own Interests

Do not let others dictate what should interest you and what should not. Whether it’s a popular band or a “groundbreaking” film; you should choose what interests you or not. If your interests are the same as everyone else’s, you will blend into the background, and you probably will not be enjoying it anyway.

Believe in yourself

It’s hard to relearn how to stand out from the crowd and this is why most people prefer to blend in. However, those that find the strength to be their own people, soon find out that the rewards are more than worth the effort. The most important step in being able to stand out of the crowd is to believe that your interests, beliefs and opinions are worth being heard, and once you have conquered the fear of being the center of attention for your refusal to blend in, you will be happier for it.

Standing out of from the crowd is not difficult; it simply takes the courage to be who you are, as daunting as this prospect might be. You are unique and you can only truly develop your potential once you accept that you have something to offer the world; something that is solely and uniquely yours.
